★ FOUR MODES · ONE OPERATING DISCIPLINE · BANGKOK BENCH

The booth interpreter performs at speed.
The consecutive interpreter delivers at depth.
Othello operates all four modes.

Interpretation is four substantively different operational modes — Simultaneous (ISO 2603/4043 booth, AIIC 20–30 minute rotation, paired team), Consecutive (pause-and-deliver, note-taking shorthand, no booth), Court & Legal (under affirmation, Thai CCP/CrPC framework, verbatim discipline), and Remote / RSI / VRI / OPI (ISO 24019:2022, hub or home configuration). Othello operates all four modes under one institutional discipline — pair coordination, glossary lockstep 5 business days ahead, equipment readiness for in-person booth deployment, and tech rehearsal for RSI. The substantive moat is multi-mode capability under one operating discipline, anchored to the same engagement-letter accountability framework as the rest of the firm.

Four Interpretation Modes · Each With Its Own Discipline

Four modes. Each with its own operational discipline. Pick the right one at scope.

Each mode has substantively different operational requirements — different equipment, different cognitive-load discipline, different working-pair rules, different institutional standards. Mode selection happens at scope, not at delivery — picking simultaneous when consecutive fits, or consecutive when simultaneous is structurally needed, costs both time and substantive accuracy. The four cards below document each mode’s substantive operating standard, with cross-links to the dedicated sub-page where the operational depth lives.

MODE · 01 · SIMULTANEOUS

Simultaneous — ISO 2603/4043 booth

PAIRED TEAM · AIIC 20–30 MIN ROTATION
Setup
ISO 2603/4043-compliant booth · soundproof acoustic isolation · interpreter consoles (channel select, mic on/off, relay function) · wireless UHF digital receivers and headsets · control unit and transmitter
Working pair
Paired team mandatory beyond 30 minutes · AIIC and EU/UN-aligned 20–30 minute rotation discipline · the inactive interpreter monitors, provides terminology support, and prepares the next handover
Timing
Real-time delivery · no doubling of meeting time · audience hears in their target language with no procedural pause · cognitive load discipline requires the working pair
Best for
Multi-language conferences · SET-listed AGMs · large summits · M&A signing ceremonies · hybrid board meetings · large-scale training where real-time multi-direction delivery is structurally needed
★ Typical engagements
SET-listed AGMs Conferences Summits M&A signing Hybrid board Large training
MODE · 02 · CONSECUTIVE

Consecutive — pause-and-deliver

SOLO ≤90 MIN · PAIRED BEYOND · NO BOOTH
Setup
No booth, no equipment requirement · interpreter sits or stands with the principal speaker · note-taking shorthand discipline (consecutive note-taking is a specialised methodology distinct from court reporting or general note-taking)
Working pair
Solo engagement acceptable up to ~90 minutes · paired team for longer engagements, half-day or full-day work, and high-stakes substantive matters (negotiation, audit, depositions)
Timing
Doubles meeting time — speaker delivers segment, interpreter renders in full · the substantive accuracy gain is the trade-off for the time doubling
Best for
Business meetings · bilateral negotiation · training and workshops where comprehension precision matters more than time efficiency · audits · press conferences · diplomatic and ceremonial engagements
★ Typical engagements
Negotiation Training Workshops Audits Press conf Diplomatic
MODE · 03 · COURT & LEGAL

Court & Legal — under affirmation

THAI CCP/CrPC · 5 CATEGORIES · VERBATIM
Framework
Thai Civil Procedure Code (CCP) and Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) framework · interpreter sworn under affirmation at the proceeding · Thailand has no sworn-interpreter national registry — court-appointed at each proceeding, with the substantive discipline anchored by the interpreter’s institutional credentials and engagement track record
Discipline
Verbatim accuracy · neutrality · no commentary · no smoothing · the interpreter renders what the speaker said, not what the interpreter thinks the speaker meant · procedural distinctions matter (e.g. “I believe” vs “I think” are not interchangeable in court)
5 categories
(1) Thai court proceedings · (2) Depositions and letters rogatory · (3) Arbitration (TAI / THAC / ICC / SIAC) · (4) Immigration proceedings · (5) Police and prosecutor interviews
Discipline

MODE SELECTION AT SCOPE · Mode selection happens at scope, not at delivery. A 30-minute scoping conversation typically resolves mode + format + working-pair sizing + equipment needs · see Contact · Pathway 02 Scoping Call · or for formal RFP-driven procurement see How We Quote · RFP-Ready.

Fifth Mode · Whispered Interpretation (Chuchotage)

Whispered (chuchotage). The fifth mode — for 1–2 listeners only.

Whispered interpretation — chuchotage in the French institutional term — is the fifth mode, distinct from the four primary modes above. It’s reserved for engagements where one or two non-source-language participants need real-time understanding without booth equipment, typically embedded inside a larger primarily-monolingual meeting. The interpreter sits behind or beside the listener and renders simultaneously in a low voice. The mode has substantive operational constraints that determine when it fits and when simultaneous (booth) is structurally required instead.

★ WHEN WHISPERED FITS · WHEN IT DOESN’T

Whispered fits a narrow operational profile. Outside that, simultaneous booth is structurally needed instead.

Whispered fits when the meeting is primarily in one language and one or two participants need real-time interpretation embedded into the room — typical examples: a Thai-language board meeting with one foreign director, a bilateral negotiation where one principal needs interpretation while the rest of the room shares a common language, a site visit or factory tour where the principal needs running interpretation in the background.

Whispered doesn’t fit when there are 3 or more listeners (audio quality degrades and the room can’t hear the principal speaker), when the room is noisy (factory floor, busy event space), when the engagement is plenary (everyone needs interpretation), or when the engagement is long enough that the booth’s acoustic separation is operationally needed for the working pair’s cognitive endurance.

Cognitive load is identical to simultaneous — the working-pair discipline applies beyond 30 minutes, the glossary lockstep applies 5 business days ahead, and the AIIC rotation discipline applies the same way as booth simultaneous. The substantive difference is the equipment-free delivery, not a reduction in operational discipline.

ISO Standards Stack · Operational Anchors

ISO standards. The substantive operating anchors behind every mode.

Interpretation modes are not free-form — each runs under a substantively codified ISO standard or industry institutional standard. The standards govern booth construction (ISO 2603 fixed, ISO 4043 mobile), remote platform performance (ISO 24019:2022), and interpreter working conditions (AIIC professional standards adopted by EU and UN systems). The four standards below are the operational anchors behind Othello’s mode-by-mode discipline. Documenting them up front is substantively how institutional procurement evaluation panels verify that the firm’s operating discipline aligns with the institutional standards their procurement governance requires.

STANDARD · 01
ISO 2603:2016
Permanent booths for simultaneous interpretation

The standard for fixed, built-in interpretation booths in conference facilities — acoustic isolation, sightlines to the speaker and presentation surface, ventilation, lighting, console layout, and accessibility. Anchored to the UN, EU, and AIIC institutional facilities standards. Substantive for venues that host frequent multi-language conferences — UN Conference Centre Bangkok (UNCC), MFA Saranrom Palace, top-tier Bangkok 5-star conference hotels.

FIXED BOOTH UN · EU · AIIC UNCC BANGKOK
STANDARD · 02
ISO 4043:2016
Mobile booths for simultaneous interpretation

The standard for portable / mobile interpretation booths — assembled at the venue for the specific event. Covers acoustic performance, dimensions, ventilation, and emergency egress. This is the standard most Bangkok institutional event simultaneous interpretation runs under — SET-listed AGMs at 5-star conference hotels, summit and conference events at convention centres, M&A signing ceremonies at law firm offices. Othello sources ISO 4043-compliant booth equipment through accredited Bangkok conference audio-visual partners.

PORTABLE BOOTH SET AGMs CONFERENCES
STANDARD · 03
ISO 24019:2022
Simultaneous interpreting delivery platforms — requirements and recommendations

The remote interpretation platform standard — covers RSI/VRI platform performance requirements (audio latency, video frame rate, interpreter console functionality, redundancy, security). Adopted by the institutional RSI platform vendors (Interprefy, KUDO, Boostlingo) and increasingly required by procurement evaluation panels for cross-border arbitration, UN system multilateral remote meetings, and hybrid event interpretation. Tech rehearsal pre-engagement validates the platform configuration against the standard.

STANDARD · 04
AIIC Professional Standards
International Association of Conference Interpreters · institutional discipline

The international professional standards body for conference interpreters — AIIC standards govern working pair rules (paired team mandatory beyond 30 minutes), rotation discipline (20–30 minute active cycles), working condition requirements (booth quality, technical equipment, briefing access), and the institutional ethics framework. AIIC standards are operationally adopted by the UN system, EU institutions, and most institutional conference-interpretation procurement frameworks. Othello’s working-pair discipline operationally aligns with AIIC standards.

PAIRED TEAM 20–30 MIN ROTATION UN · EU ALIGNED

PROCUREMENT VERIFICATION · Institutional procurement evaluation panels routinely require ISO standards alignment in RFP responses · UNCC Bangkok bookings, MFA Saranrom Palace events, SET-listed AGM coordination, and arbitration-tier engagement all run the standards-alignment verification at the procurement evaluation tier. Documented in capability briefs delivered under mutual NDA — see How We Quote · RFP-Ready.

6-Phase Engagement Methodology · From Scope to Delivery

6-phase methodology. Mode-aware. Glossary 5 BD ahead. Tech rehearsal for RSI.

Interpretation engagement runs through a substantive 6-phase methodology — mode selection at scope, glossary build 5 business days ahead, mode-specific preparation (equipment site visit for booth simultaneous, tech rehearsal for RSI, procedural review for court), paired coordination during delivery, live delivery, and termbase carry-forward for the next engagement cycle. The methodology is operationally identical to ISO 17100-aligned translation methodology in structure (preparation → preparation → preparation → delivery → asset carry-forward) but substantively different in execution because the deliverable is real-time spoken language rather than written disclosure.

01

Mode selection — at scoping, not at delivery.

The first substantive decision is which of the five modes fits the substantive engagement — Simultaneous (booth), Consecutive, Court & Legal, Remote/RSI, or Whispered. Mode selection depends on participant count and language coverage, room configuration, time budget, equipment availability, procedural setting (court vs business), and the engagement’s substantive cognitive-load profile. Mode selection is the highest-leverage scoping decision — getting it wrong costs both time and substantive accuracy. The 30-minute scoping call routes mode-selection decision-making against the substantive engagement profile.

02

Glossary build — 5 business days ahead of delivery.

Othello builds a bilingual glossary 5 business days ahead of the engagement — the institutional standard for substantive cognitive-load preparation. The glossary covers the substantive subject-matter terminology (legal, technical, ESG framework, sectoral), proper noun pronunciation (speaker names, company names, brand names, place names), institutional acronyms, and any client-specific terminology lockstep. For multi-engagement clients, the glossary is termbase-carry-forward across engagements — the next engagement starts with the prior glossary as the substantive baseline, not from zero.

03

Mode-specific preparation — equipment, tech rehearsal, or procedural review.

Each mode has substantively different preparation discipline. Simultaneous needs equipment site visit at the venue (booth placement, sightlines, audio routing, console testing). RSI needs platform tech rehearsal on the client’s chosen platform (Zoom, Interprefy, KUDO, Webex, Teams). Court & Legal needs procedural review of the matter — court category, procedural posture, substantive legal subject-matter understanding, courtroom layout. Consecutive and Whispered need engagement-context briefing on participant roles and the substantive flow of the meeting. Mode-specific preparation is what separates institutional-tier interpretation from generic interpretation vendor delivery.

04

Paired coordination — working-pair lockstep ahead of delivery.

For all modes that require a paired team (simultaneous beyond 30 minutes, consecutive beyond ~90 minutes, RSI matching simultaneous rules, whispered beyond 30 minutes), the working pair coordinates ahead of delivery — same glossary, shared understanding of the engagement, agreement on rotation cadence, agreed terminology lockstep on the substantive subject-matter content. The paired discipline runs through the delivery itself — the inactive interpreter monitors, supports with terminology lookup, and prepares the handover rather than disengaging from the engagement.

05

Live delivery — AIIC-aligned discipline, mode-specific execution.

Live delivery runs under the mode-specific discipline — booth simultaneous under AIIC 20–30 minute rotation with the paired team, consecutive with the speaker’s segment-by-segment pause discipline and the interpreter’s note-taking shorthand methodology, court & legal under verbatim discipline with neutral procedural framing, RSI under the same simultaneous discipline plus platform-side audio routing and console operation. The substantive operational discipline doesn’t reduce because the room is video or hybrid — the cognitive load and rotation discipline carry across all modes.

06

Termbase carry-forward — next engagement starts with this glossary.

Post-delivery, the engagement glossary is retained in the client-specific termbase for carry-forward to the next engagement. The next engagement starts with the substantive baseline of the prior engagement’s terminology lockstep, not from zero. For multi-year engagement-letter clients (SET-listed AGM cycles, multi-event Big Law arbitration, annual UN-system multilateral meetings, recurring board-meeting cycles), the carry-forward methodology is structurally why interpretation accuracy improves engagement-on-engagement rather than plateauing. The termbase asset is a substantive client-side deliverable carried under the engagement-letter NDA framework.

METHODOLOGY VERIFICATION · Multi-phase methodology is substantively documentable in the capability brief under mutual NDA at procurement evaluation tier · institutional procurement governance (Big Law privilege regime, UN system multilateral confidentiality, US gov / FAR-grade contractor verification, Thai listed company anti-corruption procurement) routinely tests methodology depth as part of the substantive evaluation matrix. See Our Process for the broader engagement-letter accountability framework.

Engagement Tiers · Four Structures

Four engagement tiers. Single event, conference / AGM, specialised proceedings, annual retainer.

Interpretation engagement runs through four substantively different engagement structures depending on the substantive engagement type. Single-event tier covers one-off business meetings, depositions, and negotiation rounds. Conference/AGM tier covers multi-day institutional events with paired-team simultaneous discipline. Specialised proceedings tier covers court, arbitration, and tribunal work. Annual retainer tier covers institutional clients who run recurring engagement cycles. The tier structure matters because it determines the substantive engagement-letter framework, pricing discipline, paired-team capacity, and termbase carry-forward methodology.

See How We Quote · Interpretation Pricing.

Equipment Readiness · ISO 4043 Booth · Accredited Bangkok Partners

Equipment readiness. ISO 4043 booth deployment through accredited Bangkok partners.

Booth-tier simultaneous interpretation requires substantively codified equipment — ISO 4043-compliant portable booth, interpreter consoles with channel select and relay function, wireless UHF digital receivers and headsets for the audience, tabletop and lapel microphones for the speakers, control unit and transmitter, audio distribution. Othello sources equipment through accredited Bangkok conference audio-visual partners with substantive track record on UN Conference Centre Bangkok (UNCC), MFA Saranrom Palace, SET-listed AGM venues at top Bangkok 5-star conference hotels, and international arbitration centres.

★ EQUIPMENT SOURCING DISCIPLINE

Accredited Bangkok partners. ISO 4043 booth-tier equipment for every simultaneous engagement.

Othello doesn’t own institutional booth equipment in-house — institutional booth-tier simultaneous interpretation runs through accredited Bangkok conference audio-visual partners with the substantive equipment inventory, the pre-event maintenance discipline, the on-site technical operation at delivery, and the institutional venue access (UNCC, MFA Saranrom, 5-star hotel conference floors, arbitration centres). This is the institutional standard for the Bangkok interpretation market — most Bangkok institutional events run booth equipment through specialist conference AV partners rather than through interpretation firm in-house inventory.

Equipment site visit pre-event is part of the engagement methodology — Othello’s bench plus the AV partner survey the venue ahead of delivery to validate booth placement against ISO 4043 acoustic and sightline requirements, validate audio routing and console mapping, validate emergency egress and ventilation, and test the equipment configuration end-to-end. Equipment is included in the engagement quote rather than passed through as a separate line item — the substantive simplification matters for institutional procurement governance where line-item ambiguity creates audit-trail friction.

For UN-system events at UNCC, MFA-hosted bilateral events at Saranrom Palace, and arbitration-centre events at TAI/THAC, the institutional venue has its own booth standard and accredited equipment partner network. Othello coordinates against the venue’s institutional standard rather than imposing alternative equipment — see Contact for scoping engagement.

Sectoral Coverage · Four Institutional Segments

Sectoral coverage. SET-listed AGMs. Big Law arbitration. UN multilateral. Government bilateral.

Interpretation engagement runs across four institutional sectoral segments, each with substantively different mode profiles and procurement governance frameworks. SET-listed corporate AGMs run booth-tier simultaneous under the Thai capital markets disclosure regime. Big Law arbitration runs court & legal mode under arbitration tribunal procedural frameworks (TAI / THAC / ICC / SIAC). UN system multilateral runs RSI / hybrid mode under UN procurement governance. Government bilateral runs across all modes under government procurement frameworks (US gov, UK PACT, German embassy / GIZ, Thai government bilateral programmes).

SECTOR · 01 · SET-LISTED CORPORATE

SET-listed corporate AGMs & investor events

Annual general meetings, EGMs, investor roadshows, M&A signing ceremonies, hybrid board meetings, capital markets disclosure events. CROSS-SECTOR DISCIPLINE · The same operating discipline runs across all four sectors · paired-team rotation, glossary 5 BD ahead, mode-specific preparation, equipment site visit, AIIC-aligned rotation, termbase carry-forward · the sectoral framing reflects substantive engagement-type categorisation, not differential operational standards. See Our Clients for the institutional client roster across four sectors.

Common Questions · From Procurement & Event Teams

Common questions — from procurement teams and event coordinators.

Q.01Simultaneous or consecutive — which mode do I need?

Mode selection depends on participant count, time budget, room configuration, and the substantive engagement type. The structural test: simultaneous when (a) you have multiple non-source-language participants who need real-time understanding, (b) you can’t double the meeting time, or (c) the engagement is multi-language plenary. Consecutive when (a) one or two participants need interpretation and time-doubling is acceptable, (b) the engagement values precision over time-efficiency (negotiation, training, audit), or (c) the room configuration doesn’t support booth setup.

Other operational considerations: Whispered fits when 1–2 listeners are embedded in a primarily-monolingual meeting (no equipment, but pair beyond 30 min). Court / Legal is determined by the proceeding (Thai court, arbitration, deposition) — not by client preference. RSI fits hybrid or remote-participant events. The 30-minute scoping call at Pathway 02 typically resolves mode selection against substantive engagement profile.

Q.02Why do you require two interpreters (a working pair) for simultaneous?

Simultaneous interpretation has substantively high cognitive load — the interpreter is listening, comprehending, mentally translating, and speaking continuously, all in real time, often at speaker delivery speeds of 120+ words per minute. Sustained cognitive load at that intensity degrades accuracy after 20–30 minutes. The AIIC, UN, EU, and most institutional interpretation frameworks codify the 20–30 minute rotation discipline with a paired team as the operational standard.

The working pair isn’t redundancy — both interpreters are working throughout. The inactive interpreter monitors the active interpreter’s output, provides real-time terminology support (numbers, names, acronyms that the active interpreter might need backup on), prepares the next handover, and provides backup if the active interpreter has a technical issue (microphone failure, document needed, sudden coughing fit). Solo simultaneous beyond 30 minutes is operationally substandard — institutional procurement governance routinely flags solo simultaneous as a quality risk.

Q.03What ISO standards apply to interpretation?

Four substantive standards apply across the modes Othello operates. (1) ISO 2603:2016 — permanent (fixed, built-in) booths for simultaneous interpretation in conference facilities. (2) ISO 4043:2016 — mobile (portable) booths for simultaneous interpretation, assembled at the venue for the specific event. This is the standard most institutional Bangkok event simultaneous interpretation runs under. (3) ISO 24019:2022 — simultaneous interpreting delivery platforms (RSI/VRI), covering platform performance, audio latency, video frame rate, console functionality, and security. (4) AIIC Professional Standards — the international institutional standard for working-pair discipline, rotation cadence, and working conditions, adopted by UN and EU institutions.

For court & legal interpretation, the Thai Civil Procedure Code (CCP) and Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) govern interpreter conduct in Thai court proceedings. International arbitration runs under the institutional framework of the arbitral body (TAI, THAC, ICC, SIAC). See the ISO Standards Stack section above for the substantive standards depth.

Q.04How much does interpretation cost? What’s the pricing structure?

Interpretation pricing runs hourly with a half-day minimum and full-day standard rate. Rate varies substantively by mode (consecutive baseline, simultaneous higher due to paired-team discipline, court & legal higher due to specialised methodology depth), by language pair (Thai–English most common, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, ASEAN regional, German all available), by paired-team requirement (paired-team uplift for engagements beyond rotation thresholds), and by equipment scope (booth-tier equipment costed in for simultaneous, no equipment cost for consecutive or whispered).

For institutional RFP-tier procurement (UN system, Big Law, multilateral, government), pricing runs through formal RFP under mutual NDA — the substantive pricing structure aligns with the engagement-letter framework and procurement governance discipline. Single-event scoping enquiries get an indicative price range at the 30-minute scoping call. Specific quotes attach to the substantive scope — half-day vs full-day, mode, language pair, equipment, paired team. See How We Quote for the substantive pricing framework.

Q.05How far in advance do I need to book interpretation?

Substantive lead time depends on the mode and engagement tier. Booth-tier simultaneous (Conference / AGM tier) needs the longest lead time — ideally 3–4 weeks ahead, especially for peak season (SET-listed AGM Q1–Q2 concentration, conference season Q3–Q4). The lead time covers: paired-team capacity reservation, equipment partner coordination, equipment site visit at the venue, glossary build 5 BD ahead. Last-minute booking is possible but degrades all four operational discipline dimensions.

Consecutive and whispered (Single Event tier) can run on shorter lead time — typically 1–2 weeks, with the glossary build still needing 5 business days ahead. Court & legal (Specialised Proceedings tier) typically follows court schedule (often 2–4 weeks notice). RSI / Remote needs tech rehearsal time on the client platform, typically 1 week ahead. For institutional retainer-tier clients, capacity is reserved against the annual calendar ahead of specific event dates. Urgent matters with substantive justification can be escalated — see Contact.

Q.06Are your interpreters available for the Thai courts and international arbitration?

Yes — court & legal interpretation is one of the four primary modes. Substantive coverage runs across five categories: (1) Thai court proceedings under the Thai Civil Procedure Code (CCP) and Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), with interpreter sworn under affirmation at the proceeding (Thailand has no sworn-interpreter national registry — court-appointed at each proceeding). (2) Depositions and letters rogatory for cross-border legal matters. (3) International arbitration at TAI (Thai Arbitration Institute), THAC (Thailand Arbitration Center), ICC (International Chamber of Commerce), SIAC (Singapore International Arbitration Centre).

(4) Immigration proceedings at the Immigration Bureau. (5) Police and prosecutor interviews at the substantive investigation tier. Court & legal mode operates under verbatim accuracy discipline — the interpreter renders what the speaker said, not what the interpreter thinks the speaker meant. Procedural review pre-engagement validates the matter category, procedural posture, and substantive legal subject-matter depth. See Court & Legal Page for the substantive court mode depth.

Q.07Do you provide remote / RSI interpretation? Which platforms?

Yes — Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI), Video Remote Interpretation (VRI), and Over-the-Phone Interpretation (OPI) are the fourth primary mode. Othello’s interpreters work across the institutional RSI platforms — Interprefy, KUDO, Zoom (Interpretation Booth feature), Webex, Microsoft Teams (with interpretation add-on), Boostlingo, and the major hybrid event platforms. Tech rehearsal pre-engagement is mandatory — the interpreter team plus the client’s event team test audio routing, video latency, console mapping, internet redundancy, and platform-specific features against ISO 24019:2022 platform requirements before live delivery.

Substantive applications: hybrid events with remote participants, cross-border arbitration with remote witnesses, UN-system multilateral meetings across time zones, cross-border board meetings, multi-jurisdictional client briefings. Cognitive load is identical to in-person simultaneous — same paired-team requirement, same 20–30 minute rotation, same glossary lockstep. The location difference doesn’t reduce operational discipline. See Remote / RSI Page for the substantive platform-by-platform depth.

Q.08What languages do you cover?

Othello’s interpretation bench covers Thai ↔ English at substantive working level across all four modes (this is the primary engagement language pair for the Bangkok-based institutional market). Additional language pairs covered with substantive bench depth: Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional / Mandarin and Cantonese), Korean, German, French. ASEAN regional language coverage: Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, Burmese, Indonesian, Malay.

For multi-language conference events, Othello coordinates multilingual booth deployment under ISO 4043 with paired teams per language pair. Less common language pairs (e.g. Pashto, Arabic, Russian, less common European languages) are available through Othello’s institutional language network with substantive lead time for capacity-matching. For UN-system multilateral events, the standard six UN languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic) are coordinated through the institutional UN interpretation framework where Othello supplements the host-language Thai coverage. See Contact for substantive scoping on specific language pairs.

Q.09Do you supply the equipment, or do I source it separately?

Equipment is included in the engagement quote rather than passed through as a separate line item. For booth-tier simultaneous, Othello sources equipment through accredited Bangkok conference audio-visual partners with substantive equipment inventory, pre-event maintenance discipline, on-site technical operation, and institutional venue access. The substantive simplification matters for institutional procurement governance — line-item ambiguity creates audit-trail friction at the procurement evaluation tier.

For venues that have institutional booth standards and accredited equipment partner networks (UN Conference Centre Bangkok / UNCC, MFA Saranrom Palace, arbitration centres at TAI / THAC, top Bangkok 5-star conference hotels), Othello coordinates against the venue’s institutional standard rather than imposing alternative equipment. Consecutive, whispered, and court & legal modes don’t require equipment beyond standard meeting-room audio. RSI / Remote runs through the client’s chosen platform — Othello provides the interpreters and console operation, not the platform. See the Equipment Readiness section above.

Q.10How does your interpretation discipline align with Othello’s broader engagement framework?

Interpretation engagement runs under the same engagement-letter accountability framework as Othello’s translation, ESG advisory, and editorial work. NDA-from-first-email discipline applies. The 4-pathway intent routing (RFP / scoping call / reference request / other) applies. The 1-business-hour acknowledgement SLA applies. The in-house bench discipline (no freelance handoff, no overseas vendor outsourcing, no consumer-AI exposure of substantive client content) applies. Termbase carry-forward across engagement-letter clients aligns with the Translation Memory and termbase asset framework on the translation side — the substantive operational continuity matters for multi-year institutional retainer clients.

The substantive integration also runs on the client side: a SET-listed corporate engagement-letter client running annual AGM cycles plus quarterly board meetings plus 56-1 One Report translation gets unified bench coverage — the same glossary lockstep across translation and interpretation, the same engagement-letter NDA, the same procurement coordination through Othello’s BD function. Cross-engagement institutional continuity is the substantive value of the integrated bench under one operating discipline. See Our Process for the engagement-letter accountability framework.

Four modes. One operating discipline. Bangkok bench.

Simultaneous booth · consecutive pause-and-deliver · court & legal under affirmation · remote RSI/VRI/OPI · whispered chuchotage. Othello operates all five modes under one institutional operating discipline — paired-team rotation, glossary 5 business days ahead, mode-specific preparation, ISO standards alignment, AIIC-aligned working pair discipline.
